  • Always make sure you carry a day pack with useful stuff (such as binoculars, wallet, sunglasses, cell phone, crushable hats, etc).
  • Wearing new shoes? Make sure you break them in by using them a week before your experience sets off 
  • Keep in mind to bring with you a good size water bottle to keep yourself hydrated.

How much water should I carry?
Three quarters per day is good enough depending on the length of the hike, altitude and how fit you are. Often you will find a backpack with water compartments but make sure you bring an extra compartment that is light to carry but enough to keep hydrated.

What kind of food can I bring for a picnic?
Prepare food that typically does not require a lot of refrigeration. Meals such as cheese, bread, energy bars, fruits and bagels will provide a good energy source. 

Should I use a Hiking Stick?
Many hikers enjoy using a stick if they find the terrain to be muddy, rocky or unstable. However this is entirely up to you, walking sticks are used to reduce knee stress, have better balance, increase endurance and in general climb hills better.
